Postcard From Poland: Day 5

I have often said that one of the greatest joys and privileges for a believer is to worship in a cross-cultural setting, and I experienced that again on Sunday. It’s a while since I had this experience and it was as much a blessing as ever. In the morning, I ministered at the Evangelical Church in Siedlce, where Adam serves as Assistant Pastor. This is the church he was converted in some 14 years ago, and which was planted by…

Postcard From Poland: Day 4

The third of our three day training conference focussed on preaching itself. Having laid the foundations of Doctrine of Scripture and Hermeneutics now we looked at the biblical basis and some biblical examples of expository preaching and then I introduced the men to the process I teach for the preparation and preaching of sermons. We had another new member of the group today, joining us by zoom, and as ever, I found these men to be hugely engaged with and…

Postcard From Poland: Day 3

There’s something special about opening the window blinds at 5am, as I did a short while ago in my flat in Warsaw, opening the door and seeing and feeling the strength of the sunshine – even at that time of the day. Last night, at the end of another hot and sticky day there was a thunderstorm with heavy rain and, though hot already, it is certainly much fresher this morning. This little flat is on the top floor of…

Postcard From Poland: Day 2

Our subject today, for the first of our three days of training, was the Doctrine of Scripture. This seemed the right place to start for a course on The Foundations of Preaching. We worked our way through the truths we believe about God’s Word and why it is vital to take a strong stand on each of them – inspiration, infallibility, inerrancy, authority, sufficiency, efficacy, clarity – if we are going to be preachers and teachers of God’s Word. Indeed,…

Postcard from Poland: Day 1

It’s exciting! After many months of planning, praying and dreaming – not to mention countless webchats, emails etc etc – this strategic vision of training for Polish preachers is about to come to fruition. I arrived in Warsaw this afternoon and, for once, the Ryanair flight actually left Edinburgh on time and arrived a few minutes early. I suspect disciplinary action awaits the pilot. Seriously though, I was grateful for a hassle free journey and it was a delight to…

The Gospel In The Centre

In the earlier post about the Polish School for Preachers, Pastor Ben Layer made mention in his video of the online ministry of The Gospel in the Centre. We warmly commend this ministry to you and thought you might be interested in this article written by the European Mission Fellowship back in 2021 and taken from their website. Just over one year ago a website was launched by the leaders of the evangelical church in Siedlce, Poland – Ben Layer…

Polish School For Preachers

At the end of June, EBC’s Principal, Pastor John Brand, will be in Warsaw, Poland, for an exciting and strategic new venture. The Polish School For Preachers is the result of the vision and burden of Polish EBC Graduate, Pastor Adam Urban. Working with Adam and other national church leaders, John will be leading a three day conference which is the beginning of a three year training programme for Polish preachers and Bible teachers. The current plan is that this…
