New EBC Board Member

EBC is governed by and accountable to local churches through our Board of Directors which is made up of leaders of evangelical churches and others with necessary gifts and experience. We are grateful to each of them for giving of their time and expertise to the work. We are delighted to welcome to the Board, Mark Forshaw.

Now living in Pennsylvania USA, Mark is originally from Liverpool, England and for most of his career has worked globally in Christian mission and community non-profits in four continents. This includes service with United Bible Societies, Africa Inland Mission, the World Health Organization and Tearfund UK. He has published on the subject of Christian responses to community health and social challenges and has spoken on these issues at the WHO, the White House and at a U.S. Congressional Staff Briefing. He was also Adjunct Professor at Cairn University in non-profit effectiveness.

Working internationally as a consultant to Christian missions, Mark seeks to use his training in management and experience in government health care, international development and industry, to bring the best of organizational effectiveness practices to Non-Profits and Christian ministry to increase the effectiveness and impact of those on the front line of programs and also fundraising.

A significant benefit of his global travel was marrying Susan, who is Australian, and they have two children, Eleanor (21) born in London and Thomas (18) born in France. Mark seeks to watch live football, rugby or cricket games in whatever country he gets to!

Route 66: Bible Overview

We’re into the New Testament in this year-long series, but you are welcome to join us. We’ll be revisiting the Old Testament in the autumn if you want to cover that at a later date

Over 10 Tuesday evenings between Easter and Summer we’ll work our way from Matthew to Revelation – book by book – becoming familiar with the structure and theme of each book, and seeing how it contributes to the storyline of the Bible as a whole.

The class will be held on Tuesday evenings, between 7 and 9, starting on April 18th, and will be held on zoom, so that wherever you live you will be able to take part.

You can simply audit the course and benefit from the teaching and fellowship, or complete an assignment with a view to gaining some study credits. Full study notes and recordings are included in the price, which is £200, but only £150 for the auditing option.

Registration is essential and can be done here. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

School for Preachers

One of the main thrusts of EBC over the years has been the training and encouraging of preachers. Over the past 12 months we have been running an online School for Preachers, and the cohort of students has pressed us for a second year so we have developed a package that we believe will benefit anyone who wants to improve their preaching and teaching skills, or someone who is just starting out on this path.

There is now a designated School for Preachers website and we are recruiting a new intake for September and, since numbers will, of necessity, be limited, anyone interested is encouraged to get in touch with us soon.

Our School for Preachers can also provide a one to-one mentoring service, and details of that are on the website.

“The EBC preachers’ course provides good, hands on, practical training for all those who want to preach in an expository manner. It is suitable both for young preachers or more experienced ones and is a great   forum for fellowship in the preaching task”

Steve, Liverpool

“The course is well organised and structured. It is practical. You can always ask a question and there is the opportunity to discuss. The  regular monthly sessions ensure lessons are reviewed and not forgotten – this is a major benefit. The course works very well over Zoom.  It has helped me in numerous areas, such as analysing the text and structuring a sermon. John is an outstanding teacher. I am so glad to be on the course.”

Isaiah

There can be little doubt that the book of Isaiah is one of the most theologically rich of any of the Old Testament books. As has often been said, Isaiah gives the fullest revelation about the Messiah in the Old Testament, and in fact it is possible to preach the whole Gospel from Isaiah.

But, while certain sections of Isaiah – such as chapter 6 or chapter 53 – are well known and loved, much of Isaiah is largely unfamiliar to most believers. Perhaps this is because of its size or some of the prophetic and historical content.

Isaiah is the longest book in the Bible, apart from the Psalms which is, in essence, a collection of separate literary units. Its biblical importance can be seen in the fact that the New Testament contains more than 400 references to Isaiah and Paul quotes from it many times in his letters.

Ignorance of any part of Scripture is not good, but that is especially true of a book which speaks so richly of Christ.   The book, as a whole, presents a majestic and moving view of Christ.

In this module, Rev Gavino Fioretti will open up this amazing book to you in such a way that you will be able to make sense of the overall structure and message of the book and, most importantly, see Jesus and the gospel. This is an entirely new module in our curriculum and one you don’t want to miss!

The class will be held on 10 Tuesday mornings, between 11am and 1pm, starting on April 18th and will be held on zoom, so that wherever you live you will be able to take part.

EBC In Partnership with South Sudan Churches

The troubled nation of South Sudan has been in the news quite a lot recently because of the visit of three religious leaders. However, EBC’s Director of Training got there long before they did, though it has to be said it didn’t make the world news; only a full page article in the national daily newspaper!

John Brand has had a long association with churches and Christians in both Sudan and South Sudan and has led numerous training conferences and seminars in Khartoum and Juba.

Now, EBC has enrolled 11 South Sudanese church leaders as students and the hope and expectation is that more will follow. Tuition will take place via emails, whatsapp and zoom. Most of these folk are already in a leadership position in one of the churches belonging to the evangelical Africa Inland Church – South Sudan (AIC-SS), and they are all recommended by the church leadership. Most have no formal training and all have very limited resources. Additionally, in John’s words, “they survive on fresh air” so are not able to make any contribution to the tuition they will receive and benefit from.

Would you be willing to prayerfully and financially support one of these students?

If you could help, you would be making a vital investment into the evangelical church in South Sudan. We will send you a brief bio of one of the students and any prayer updates we receive from them, keeping you up to date with their studies and progress. We will leave the amount of support to you but would recommend either £10 per month or perhaps a one off gift of £50 or £100.

Bible In A Day – Livestreamed

We’re excited to be able to say that we are now planning to livestream the Bible In A Day seminar on March 11th.

Just register here, in the normal way, and make sure to click the livestream option. Nearer the time we will send you the zoom link you will need to access the seminar in this way

This module is being taught over zoom and if you would like to take advantage of this special offer you need to register by 5pm on Tuesday 17th January.   You can register here.
