Genesis 1-11

Genesis 1-11

The Bible without Genesis would be, in the words of one writer, “like a building without a ground floor or a bridge with no support.” Certainly, it would be hard to overstate the importance of the book of Genesis, and especially the first 11 chapters.   Genesis is, in some ways, the most important book ever written and without it so much of the rest of the Bible would be unintelligible.  Here we have an indispensable introduction to the Bible as a whole and some foundation stones of truth are clearly laid down. Almost every biblical doctrine can, in some sense be traced back to the opening pages of Genesis, which is why it is so important to study these chapters and grasp something of their enormous significance.

Genesis is quoted from over 200 times in the New Testament. In fact, chapters 1-11 are quoted more than 100 times in the New Testament. It’s not just mentioned, but you’ll find it being quoted word for word over 165 times in the New Testament. Here we have the origins of everything we know and are familiar with – the universe, life, death, sin, marriage, families, covenants, languages, nations, cities, cultures, religions, redemption and even such basic elements of life such as clothing.
