Church Vacancy in Wick

by | Jan 20, 2026 | Announcements, News | 0 comments

We received this letter from our friends at Wick Reformed Baptist Church / Harbour Mission and are happy to bring this need to a wider audience.

We are the only confessionally Reformed Baptist Church north of Inverness and subscribe (in the main) to the 1689 2nd London Baptist Confession. The church has been faithfully proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom since the early 1960s and it is the heartfelt desire of the members to continue as a functional church in the town of Wick in Caithness. Our congregation has benefitted from the ministry of our Pastor – Gilbert
McAdam – since 2017. Pastor Gilbert is due to retire this coming spring and by May 2026, the charge is expected to be vacant. As the only other male member of the church, I have been asked if I would
approach a variety of organisations who might assist us in our hour of need.

Although our total number of formal members is low (currently 2 men and 6 women) , we do have a number of additional adherents and regular attendees, particularly on Sunday evenings. Our low membership will be further compounded with the likelihood that I and my wife will also be leaving the area in the near future. I therefore feel the weight of responsibility to make every effort to ensure that this faithful church of sixty years continues to be a Gospel witness.  In terms of practical assets, the church has a very pleasant and centrally located hall adjacent to the Harbour in Wick. The building is well known and prominently displays the message ‘Christ died for our sins’ across the Wick River. The hall itself has good facilities including a variety of adjacent rooms which have served as ‘in house’ accommodation for our pastor and his family these last 8 to 9 years.

The church has long established links with local primary schools and under the banner of Scripture Union we have members who are very active in ministry to the school pupils in each of the two local primary schools. We regularly host afternoon teas on Thursdays which involve hymn singing and a brief exposition of scripture. These are very well attended and much appreciated by a number of senior ladies.
We are however a church in desperate need of revitalisation and so we are exploring every opportunity to source a pastor who has a zeal for evangelism who might consider ministry at Wick Harbour Mission.

We would ask that you consider our need and if you feel you can support or assist us, or are aware of a pastor who might consider our pending vacancy, then we really would value your input. We do thank you for taking the time to read of our situation and we pray that God would be gracious to us as we seek to continue to proclaim the Gospel as a functional church here in the far north of Scotland.

Yours in Christ,
Roddy McBoyle
