Looking for Bible Training?

Are you looking for some solid, inspirational and practical Bible Training?

Are you looking for training that will not just inform but transform you?

At EBC we are passionate about working together with local churches to see God’s people equipped for “every good work” (2 Timothy 3:17). Whether you sense a call to some sphere of ministry – be it pastoral, evangelistic, cross-cultural – or whether you simply want to get to know your God and your Bible better and play a more effective part within the life of your church, EBC can help you.

At EBC you can study for a Diploma or Certificate or just do individual subjects.

At EBC you can study ‘full-time’, (15-20 hours of classes a week, plus personal study time, over 30 weeks), or part-time, fitting in as many classes as you can around home, work and other commitments.

Our Diploma students need to fill in an application form and have the support and active involvement of their home church. All other students just complete a simple registration form.

At EBC, all our teaching is done over zoom-based virtual classes and we have developed this teaching medium in recent years to make it work really well.

If you are interested in considering your options with us, you can find some more information here or please feel free to contact our Principal, John Brand, who will be delighted to answer any questions or even chat to you over zoom or, if possible, meet with you in person.

EBC’s School For Preachers

At the heart of EBC’s vision and passion has always been the training and equipping of faithful, effective and passionate Bible preachers and teachers. EBC trained pastors and preachers are now active in ministry in USA, N Ireland, England, Scotland, Poland, Uganda and South Sudan. This summer, at the request of national church leaders, we will be beginning a training course for preachers in Poland.

In order to make this training available to as many as possible, we have reformatted and restructured our expository preaching course and from the autumn will be running it fortnightly on Tuesday evenings over zoom.

School for Preachers is a zoom based training course to equip you to be an effective preacher or teacher of Scripture.  As well as group sessions there are opportunities for one-to-one mentoring and feedback.

If you are:

  • · interested in learning how to correctly teach or preach the Bible
  • · wondering whether you might have a gift for preaching
  • · already doing some preaching but want to be better at it
  • · just starting out as a preacher and want to develop your gift
  • · a seasoned preacher who would like a refresher course

then this course may be just for you.

You will learn

· how to analyse and divide up the biblical text

· how to construct a message that is faithful to the Bible text

· how to effectively preach and teach God’s Word

Over the year-long course we will guide you through the PRINCIPLES of expository preaching, the PROCESS of sermon construction and the PRACTICE of sermon delivery.

There will be assignments and exercises and evaluation of sermons preached.

More details are available at the designated School for Preachers website

EBC Preachers’ Club

At the heart of EBC’s vision and passion has always been the training and equipping of faithful, effective and passionate Bible preachers and teachers. EBC trained pastors and preachers are now active in ministry in USA, N Ireland, England, Scotland, Poland, Uganda and South Sudan. This summer, at the request of national church leaders, we will be beginning a training course for preachers in Poland.

A very profitable part of beginning and sustaining a preaching and teaching ministry is the opportunity to interact with others in the work, learning from one another and getting feedback. So, starting in September 2024, we will be hosting a zoom-based monthly Preachers’ Club which will be open to ANYONE currently involved in or preparing for a preaching or teaching ministry. Each month, on a Saturday morning, the group will work collaboratively on a passage of Scripture, helping one another to identify the key theme, the structure, the application and the Christological key.

There will be no formal cost for this group, but donations will we welcome. Further details will be available in due course, but if you would like to register an interest or get additional information now, please contact EBC’s Principal, John Brand – john.brand@edinburghbiblecollege.co.uk

The Letters of John

Most Christians are probably familiar with John’s Gospel and his Revelation but probably less so with his three letters which come almost at the end of our New Testament. Yet these three short letters have so much with which to instruct and guide us today.

Each term we try and run one module that is more devotional as well as teaching, and John’s Letters are our choice for the summer term, so if you would like some online devotional fellowship with other believers, why not join us?

The studies will be held on 10 Thursday mornings from 9.30 – 10.30, starting on April 18th, and since the sessions will be held over zoom, wherever you live you will be able to take part.

You can simply audit the course and benefit from the teaching and fellowship, or complete an assignment with a view to gaining some study credits. Full study notes and recordings are included in the price, which is £100, but only £75 for the auditing option.

Registration is essential and can be done here. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

You can download a Module Description here.

Course Tutor: Rev John Brand, EBC Principal

John Brand was born to missionary parents in India and trusted Christ for salvation while at boarding school there at the age of 11.  He later trained at the Bible Training Institute in Glasgow, and then, for 12 years, pastored two independent evangelical churches, one in the inner city of London and then one in Liverpool, during some of which time he also served on the UK Council of Africa Inland Mission International (AIM). In 1993 he took on the role of AIM’s Director for Scotland, becoming Director for UK and Europe in 1999. During his 8 years in this position he exercised a Bible teaching ministry throughout UK and Europe and made regular visits to many of AIM’s fields of service in Africa where he was involved in ministering to missionaries and nationals. After some years on the staff of The Faith Mission Bible College in Edinburgh, John, in partnership with several church leaders, established Edinburgh Bible College. Married to Caroline and with two grown up sons and two grand-daughters, John contributes book reviews and articles to Christian publications, and is author of three books – A Concise Chronology of the Bible, The Bible as it Happened and Mission Matters, which has also been published in Romanian. John is currently involved in itinerant ministry in local churches and in the little spare time he has he enjoys reading, walking and family history research. He has his own ministry website at www.route66.og.uk

The Bible

Here’s a reminder of another of the subjects we will be teaching in our new summer term which starts next week

The Bible makes some remarkable claims for itself.

  • It tells us that God has a very special regard for the person who has a special regard for his Word (Psalm 1; Isaiah 66:2cp Psalm 119:120)
  • God’s purposes in the world, throughout its history, are accomplished by his Word (Isaiah 55:11)
  • The world and all that is in the world will disappear, but the Word of the Lord will remain forever (Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 5:18; 1 Peter 1:23-25)

It is important, therefore, that we have the right attitude towards the Bible and know as much about it as we possibly can.

  • how do we know if it is true?
  • where did it come from?
  • when and how was it written?
  • how did it come to be in its present form?
  • how do we know that the content has been reliably transmitted to us?

All these questions and more we will address over ten two-hour classes on Wednesday afternoons, from 2.00 – 4.00pm, starting on April 17th. The classes will be held over zoom, meaning that wherever you live you will be able to take part.

You can simply audit the course and benefit from the teaching and fellowship, or complete an assignment with a view to gaining some study credits. Full study notes and recordings are included in the price, which is £200, but only £150 for the auditing option.

Registration is essential and can be done here. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
