New Adjunct Lecturer

We are delighted to welcome Rev Gareth Burke to our growing team of Adjunct Lecturers.  One of the key distinctives of Edinburgh Bible College is that the teaching will be done, not by professional academics but by practitioners; men and women who are, on a day-to-day basis, engaged in a range of ministries. This keeps our training grounded in reality and also provides great role models for those we are equipping for ministry.

Gareth grew up in Belfast and came to faith in Christ during his teenage years. After obtaining a degree in  Modern History from Queen’s University Belfast he studied theology at the Free Church College, Edinburgh. He was ordained in 1984 and has ministered in three congregations of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, all in Belfast, N Ireland. He is currently Minister of Stranmillis Evangelical Presbyterian Church where he has served for more than 20 years. Married to Ruth, who is from Scotland, they have been blessed with four children and twelve grandchildren.

Bible Overview

Here is a great way to get to know every book of the Bible, and see how it contributes to the storyline of the Bible as a whole. Over 30 Monday evenings throughout the College year we will guide you through every book, helping you to see its main theme, it’s key verse(s) and its structure. We will also set each individual book in the unfolding revelation of God’s plan and purpose.

Held over zoom, you don’t even need to leave home to benefit from this course! And because all sessions are recorded, if the live teaching time doesn’t suit you, registered students can access and watch them at a convenient time of their own choosing.

The course is taught by one of EBC’s new Adjunct Lecturers, Grant Earley

There are two ways to get involved:

  • You can audit the course – simply taking part, enjoying the teaching and online fellowship, and benefitting from lots of notes and materials
  • you can submit assessments – completing three assignments for marking and gaining EBC study credits

The course starts on Monday 30th September 2024 and runs from 7.00 – 9.00pm each Monday evening during College term time. Specific dates will be provided.

The cost is:

  • auditing option: £150 per term (10 sessions @ £15 per night); £400 for the whole year if paid in advance
  • assessments option: £200 per term (10 sessions @ £20 per night); £550 for the whole year if paid in advance

Please note that fees must be paid at least one term in advance. Registration is essential and can be done here.

Graduation Celebration 2024

We’re excited to announce that our 2024 Graduation Celebration service will, for the first time, be held in Northern Ireland.

We are grateful to the Pastor and Leaders of Bangor Independent Methodist Church for allowing us to hold the service in their building on Friday 27th September, when our Guest Preacher will be Rev Gareth Burke, Minister of Stranmillis EPC and the latest recruit to our growing cohort of Adjunct Lecturers.  As well as celebrating another Graduation, this will be a great opportunity to hear about what EBC has to offer, as well as to benefit from some inspirational ministry.

Romans

While, of course, “All Scripture is profitable” (2 Timothy 3:16), some Scripture is undoubtedly more profitable than other parts, and there can be little doubt that the Letter to the Romans is among the most profitable of all.

This 10 week evening class would make a great Bible study session which would hugely benefit anyone.

Objectives:

This module is intended to open up one of the most important individual books of the Bible to the student, showing how it brings together so many of the Bible’s greatest themes, and to do so in a way that will increase the student’s knowledge and appreciation of biblical truth and further equip them in their understanding and effective communication of the good news of the gospel.

Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module the student will

Head:

  • know the overall structure and message of the book of Romans and be familiar with its important doctrinal themes

Heart:

  • feel their heart strangely warmed as they more deeply appreciate the immeasurable dimensions of grace and the momentous truth of justification by faith
  • have an increased confidence in the power of the gospel for the salvation of all who believe

Hand:

  • be able to explain the major arguments and teachings of Romans

Tuition

  • The module will be taught over zoom on 10 Monday evenings between 7 and 9pm, starting on Monday 30th September
  • The lecturer is Rev John Brand, EBC Principal
  • The cost of the module is £150 for auditing and £200 for assessment
