The Doctrine of God

Who is God?  Who is this One who reveals himself in Scripture, in the person of Jesus Christ and through the Holy Spirit?

James M Boice

There is no doubt but that 99% of our troubles as Christians is that we are ignorant of God.  We spend so much time feeling our own pulse, taking our own spiritual temperature, considering our moods, our states, and fears.   Oh, if we had but had some conception of Him, the inconceivable glory of God.

D M Lloyd-Jones

This module is a study of the biblical teaching on the doctrine of God, focussing on his being, attributes and the Trinity. It is designed to stir our hearts to worship the incomprehensible yet knowable God.

The class will be held on 10 Tuesday afternoons, between 2 and 4pm, starting on January 10th and will be held on zoom, so that wherever you live you will be able to take part.

You can simply audit the course and benefit from the teaching and fellowship, or complete an assignment with a view to gaining some study credits. Full study notes and recordings are included in the price, which is £200, but only £150 for the auditing option.

The decline of the knowledge of the holy has brought on our troubles. A rediscovery of the majesty of God will go a long way toward curing them. It is impossible to keep our moral practices sound and our inward attitudes right while our idea of God is erroneous or inadequate. If we would bring back spiritual power to our lives, we must begin to think of God more nearly as He is.

Romans

Over 9 Wednesday afternoons in the Spring, EBC’s Director of Training, Pastor John Brand, will be guiding students through the monumentally important Letter to the Romans.

Frederick Godet, the 19th century Swiss Protestant Theologian said of Romans

The Reformation was certainly the work of the Epistle to the Romans and that of the Galatians, and it is probable that every great spiritual renovation in the Church will always be linked, both in cause and effect, to a deeper knowledge of this book.

Martin Luther, the German Reformer said

The Epistle to the Romans is the true masterpiece of the New Testament and the very purest Gospel which is well worth and deserving that a Christian man should not only learn it by heart, word for word, but also that he should daily deal with it as the daily bread of man’s souls.   It can never be too much or too well read or studied, and the more it is handled the more precious it becomes, and the better it tastes.

Is there a more important book in the Bible? This module is intended to open up Romans, highlighting and expounding the great doctrines of the faith that it teaches, as well as identifying all the practical implications and applications.

The class will be held on 9 Wednesday afternoons, between 2 and 4pm, starting on January 18th and will be held both on zoom and in-person, so that wherever you live you will be able to take part.

You can simply audit the course and benefit from the teaching and fellowship, or complete an assignment with a view to gaining some study credits. Full study notes and recordings are included in the price, which is £180, but only £135 for the auditing option.

Registration is essential and can be done here. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

EBC Pastors’ Fellowship

We commend to your prayers a new venture which begins today – the EBC Pastors’ Fellowship.

Many men in pastoral ministry, have a sense of isolation and are sometimes struggling with issues in ministry for which they do not feel adequately prepared and equipped. This, of course, is in addition to the general need for fellowship and mutual burden-bearing.

With this in mind we are today holding the first online meeting of the EBC Pastors’ Fellowship, with most, but not all, of those involved having been trained at EBC over the years or currently undergoing training. Those involved at this moment in time are ministering in Scotland, England, N Ireland, Poland and the USA. We want to provide an ongoing support and fellowship resource and meet not as lecturers and students but as brothers in Christ and co-workers in the gospel. Two or three experienced Pastors will be involved so as to provide a wealth of knowledge and experience. We will discuss issues in pastoral ministry, do some guided reading together and pray for one another.

Initially we envisage these being monthly get-togethers over zoom with the possibility of one or two ‘in-person’ meetings during the year as well. If you know someone who might benefit from this ministry, please do let us know.

We Welcome a New EBC Director

We’re delighted to welcome a new member to our Board of Directors, and especially so because he is our first EBC Graduate to join the Board.

Pastor Joe Brown graduated with a Diploma in Theology in 2017, after which he served as Pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Perth before moving to N Ireland in the summer of 2022 to become Pastor of Larne Congregational Church. We are immensely grateful to him and the other members of the Board for their input, time and prayers in directing the work of the College.

Have you signed up yet for one of our new modules? Route 66 (Bible Overview) started last evening but you could still enrol in time for next week’s class and not have missed too much. We had a keen group of students online, signing in from as far apart as Aberdeen and Belfast, and that’s possible because all our courses are held over zoom. All our other courses – see below – start next week and we are still accepting registrations (here).

Details of the individual subjects can be found here.

Route 66: Bible Overview

There’s still time to join others who have already signed up for our new evening class series which starts at 7.00pm on Monday 26th September.

Over 30 Monday evenings between now and next summer we’ll work our way through the whole Bible – book by book – becoming familiar with the structure and theme of each book of the Bible, and seeing how it contributes to the storyline of the Bible as a whole. ANYONE is more than welcome to join us, and more details can be found about this course as well as our other autumn 2022 courses here.
