Prayer

If there is one area of the Christian life where it seems every single believer admits to needing help, then it must be in the area of prayer.  This nine-week module on prayer, led by Dr Sandy Roger, will look at the biblical teaching and importance of prayer in relation to personal spiritual development and pastoral ministry.

The course will be run over 9 Wednesday mornings between 9.30 and 10.30, starting on 1st October 2025, and will be held over zoom so that WHOEVER your are and WHEREVER you are, you can take part and benefit.

There are two ways to get involved:

  • You can audit the course – simply taking part, enjoying the teaching and online fellowship, and benefitting from notes and materials.  Cost is £70
  • You can submit assessments – completing an assignment for marking and gaining EBC study credits.  Cost is £100

Please note that fees must be paid in advance. Registration is essential and can be done here.

Expository Preaching

In this 30 week course which runs throughout the College year, EBC’s Principal, John Brand, will guide you through the process of preparing to preach or teach a message based on a passage of Scripture. John has been preaching for 50 years and for about half of that time has also been involved in training preachers in UK, Sudan, South Sudan and Poland.  He can’t make anyone a preacher, but with God’s help he can make you a better preacher and further develop a gift that God has given you.  The principles taught in this class not only apply to ‘pulpit preaching’ but also to teaching a Bible study or some other context pf communicating the truth of God’s Word

The course will run on Tuesday evenings between 7 and 9pm over zoom, and as well as interactive classroom sessions there will be opportunities for one to one mentoring by John.

The course starts on Tuesday 30th September 2025 and specific dates for the whole course and other information is available here.

The cost for the year long course is £600 (3 terms at £200) and fees must be paid at least one term in advance. If you just want to audit the course and not complete assignments etc, the cost is £450 (3 terms at £150).

Registration is essential and can be done here.

Hermeneutics (Bible Interpretation)

Biblical Hermeneutics, or Bible Interpretation, may not sound the most fun or exciting subject to study but among comments made by previous students are:

  • “I now understand the Bible so much better than I used to”
  • “even in my own devotions I am getting more out of my Bible than before”

In this module we’ll give you the tools to correctly understand and apply the teaching of any part of God’s Word, and it also provides the necessary foundation for teaching or preaching the Bible.  We promise you that it is not as dull as you might at first think! Our Principal reckons it’s one of his very favourite subjects. When Paul tells Timothy to be an unashamed workman, “rightly handling the word of truth” (2 Timothy 15), he is, by implication, highlighting the fact that there are incorrect ways of handling the Scriptures. This important course will keep you right.

Over 30 Wednesday afternoons through the College year, starting on 1st October 2025, our Principal, John Brand, will introduce you to the ‘Golden Rules’ of interpreting the Bible and give you the ‘tools’ necessary to rightly handle the word of truth.  This course would be of immense value, not only to those who are preparing to teach or preach God’s Word but, indeed, to all believers who want to get more out of their Bibles.

You can audit the course – simply taking part, enjoying the teaching and online fellowship, and benefitting from lots of notes and materials, or you can submit assessments – completing an assignment for marking and gaining EBC study credits.

For auditing, the cost for the whole year-long course is £450; for assessments it is £600. This amount can be paid in three termly instalments.

Acts

Some people think the Bible is boring! They have clearly never read Acts. The growth and expansion of the early church as recorded in the book of Acts is nothing less than spectacular. In the space of little more than 30 years the church grew from 120 frightened believers in Jerusalem to tens of thousands of them all over the known world. What were the secrets of their success and what can we learn from them today?

Join us on 10 Tuesday mornings, from 9.30 – 10.30, starting on 30th September 2025, through the autumn for an exciting journey of discovery, as we read of how the 1st century church turned the world upside down (Acts 17:6) and what lessons there are for the 21st century church. Your tour guide is EBC’s Principal,  John Brand

There are two ways to get involved:

  • You can audit the course – simply taking part, enjoying the teaching and online fellowship, and benefitting from lots of notes and materials
  • you can submit assessments – completing an assignment for marking and gaining EBC study credits

Please note that fees must be paid in advance. Registration is essential and can be done here.

Scottish Church History

The course is divided into sections: Early Christianity; the Medieval Period; the Reformation; the Covenanters; the Enlightenment Period; the Nineteenth Century Awakening; the Twentieth Century; and the Twenty-first Century.  More details available here.

The course runs over 10 Monday mornings, from 11.00am – 1.00pm, starting on 29th September 2025, and there are two ways to get involved:

Can you help us?

Our website is, in many ways, the shop window for the College.   Other than through personal recommendation, it’s the way most folk find out about us when they go online to find study options.  Everyone tells us that the website is good, professional and user friendly.  We are also being told – and we are convinced it’s true – that we could significantly increase traffic to the site, and therefore potential students, if we greatly improved our SEO – Search Engine Optimization.  The problem is that we need technical advice and help to do that and it’s not cheap.  Believe us, we’ve looked!

And then we thought – surely, there is someone out there – or someone who knows someone – who could help us; someone who could teach us what to do and how to do it, or who could take this on as a labour of love for the Lord and the Kingdom.    In return, we would gladly offer some free tuition.

If you could help us, please contact our Vice Principal, Ramone McKenzie: ramone@edinburghbiblecollege.co.uk

I don’t need any help with my prayer life….

“I don’t need any help with my prayer life….”, said no one ever, at least not in my hearing or to my knowledge!

If there is one thing I find all Christians to be united about, it is the defective nature and weakness of their prayer life.   With the disciples of old, the universal Christian cry is, “Lord, teach us to pray”.

Well we can’t give you the Lord in person, but we can give you our good friend Dr Sandy Roger as a help.  Sandy has considerable experience in teaching on this subject and brings a lifetime of ministry and pastoral – as well as personal – experience to bear.

Why not invest just one hour a week over 9 weeks and, together with others, make some progress in the school of prayer?
