Ecclesiology: The Doctrine of the Church

This is a subject that is almost uniquely close to the heart of God and therefore should be close to our hearts as well. Given how important the Church is to God we will not be surprised to discover that he has a great deal to say about the Church in the Scriptures.   The individual believer and the local congregation of believers that wants to grow in Christ-likeness and spiritual maturity will be the believer and congregation that brings themselves under the authoritative teaching of God’s Word and seeks to live in as close conformity to it as possible.

“Every earthly pilgrim ought faithfully…to love Jesus Christ, the Lord, the bridegroom of that church, and also the church herself, his bride.”

Jan Huss

This course, taught by EBC’s Director of Training, Pastor John Brand, will explore the biblical teaching on the doctrine of the Church, focussing on the nature, identity and purpose of the Church, and giving consideration to what the Scriptures say about its leaders, members, sacraments and worship.

Classes are held over zoom, making them accessible to ANYONE, wherever they live. They start on Thursday 20th April and run over 9 Thursday mornings between 11.00am and 1.00pm.

The cost is just £150 (auditing) or £200 (study credits), and you can register for this course here.

Pneumatology: The Doctrine of The Holy Spirit

A Christian may not always be conscious of the Holy Spirit’s presence, but he would not even be a Christian in his absence.

JOHN BLANCHARD

For many years the person and work of the Holy Spirit was a neglected study, which is why he is sometimes called “The Forgotten God” (Francis Chan).  As a result, the study of the Holy Spirit has become associated with controversy and marred by confusion.

Nevertheless, the Christian life is a spiritual life, because the Holy Spirit should be at the heart of our daily Christian experience. There is no Christian life apart from the presence, power and resources of the Holy Spirit.  This course will seek to teach clearly the biblical truths about the person and work of the Holy Spirit, while also dealing with the areas of controversy and confusion.

Classes are held over zoom, making them accessible to ANYONE, wherever they live. They start on Wednesday 19th April and run over 9 Wednesday mornings between 11.00am and 1.00pm. Your course tutor is Pastor John Brand, EBC’s Director of Training.

The cost is just £150 (auditing) or £200 (study credits), and you can register for this course here.

2 Timothy is Paul’s last recorded letter, written to his son in the faith just weeks before his own death. It is one of the most straight forward and urgent of the New Testament letters and one of the most relevant for our day and generation.

Classes are held over zoom, so wherever you live in the world, this course is accessible to you.

Route 66: Bible Overview

We’re into the New Testament in this year-long series, but you are welcome to join us. We’ll be revisiting the Old Testament in the autumn if you want to cover that at a later date

Over 10 Tuesday evenings between Easter and Summer we’ll work our way from Matthew to Revelation – book by book – becoming familiar with the structure and theme of each book, and seeing how it contributes to the storyline of the Bible as a whole.

The class will be held on Tuesday evenings, between 7 and 9, starting on April 18th, and will be held on zoom, so that wherever you live you will be able to take part.

You can simply audit the course and benefit from the teaching and fellowship, or complete an assignment with a view to gaining some study credits. Full study notes and recordings are included in the price, which is £200, but only £150 for the auditing option.

Registration is essential and can be done here. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

School for Preachers

One of the main thrusts of EBC over the years has been the training and encouraging of preachers. Over the past 12 months we have been running an online School for Preachers, and the cohort of students has pressed us for a second year so we have developed a package that we believe will benefit anyone who wants to improve their preaching and teaching skills, or someone who is just starting out on this path.

There is now a designated School for Preachers website and we are recruiting a new intake for September and, since numbers will, of necessity, be limited, anyone interested is encouraged to get in touch with us soon.

Our School for Preachers can also provide a one to-one mentoring service, and details of that are on the website.

“The EBC preachers’ course provides good, hands on, practical training for all those who want to preach in an expository manner. It is suitable both for young preachers or more experienced ones and is a great   forum for fellowship in the preaching task”

Steve, Liverpool

“The course is well organised and structured. It is practical. You can always ask a question and there is the opportunity to discuss. The  regular monthly sessions ensure lessons are reviewed and not forgotten – this is a major benefit. The course works very well over Zoom.  It has helped me in numerous areas, such as analysing the text and structuring a sermon. John is an outstanding teacher. I am so glad to be on the course.”
