Prayer and Praise

Each month we produce a very brief powerpoint presentation with a few pointers for praters and praise related to the ongoing ministry of the College.  A number of individuals use it as well as a few churches who include it in their prayer meetings.   We are grateful to everyone for supporting the College in this way and if you would like to have the powerpoint sent to you automatically each month, please let us know.  You can download the April edition here.

Church History

Every Christian ought to know something about the way in which the Gospel has spread and the Church has grown over the centuries since the time of Christ.  This module provides a bird’s eye view of Church history from the Day of Pentecost to the present day. Led by our expert guide, Mr Dieter Schneider, this 20 week course will

  • trace the history of the Church from Pentecost to the present
  • assess our evangelical heritage throughout the history of the Church
  • explain the emergence of theological positions throughout Church history
  • describe the emergence of the major branches of Christianity today

The course will be held on Wednesday mornings between 11.00am and 1.00pm over zoom.  The course starts on Wednesday 2nd October 2024 and specific dates for the whole course will be provided.

The cost for the whole, two term course is £300 if you just want to audit the module and £400 if you want to complete any assessments and gain study credits.  Fees must be paid at least one term in advance and registration, which can be done here, is essential.

If you have any questions or want more information, please email info@edinburghbiblecollege.co.uk

School For Preachers

Starting on Saturday 29th January, EBC’s Principal is running a monthly zoom based School for Preachers, at the request of the leaders of Dovecot Evangelical Church in Liverpool. But this is open to anyone, anywhere, who would like to become better equipped for the work of preaching God’s Word.

Held over 12 Saturdays, the first session is completely FREE, and thereafter the cost is £15 per month or £150 if paid in advance.

There will be a mixture of teaching, discussion and questions and answers and more detail can be found in this leaflet or by emailing john.brand@edinburghbiblecollege.co.uk

Free Book!

We want to give a free book to everyone who joins our Friends of EBC programme.

As a Friend of EBC, you would give a monthly contribution of £10 or more to help us cover our core costs. In return, we would send you regular updates about how this support helps us move forward in providing quality training for God’s people. By joining Friends of EBC you can play an important part in helping us equip the next generation of church leaders.

Discipleship

Here are details of another of our new virtual classrooms which are running this autumn and which are open to anyone.  (You can find more information about our virtual classrooms here.)

Jesus gave his followers one task.  The most rewarding, challenging, and strategic work.  A creative, personal, and flexible investment in the future.  This one activity has propelled the church though history and placed it in our hands.  And now His commission comes to us, “Go, and make disciples.”

This module approaches the task with confident hope in the teaching of Jesus Christ and the example of the early church. It explores the marks of a disciple and unpacks the everyday elements of making disciples, so that you can continue to grow as a life-giving, good-news Christian and bring others along with you.

Course dates:

Thursdays

  • October 8, 15, 22, 29
  • November 12, 19, 26

Hermeneutics (Interpreting the Bible)

Here are details of another of our new virtual classrooms which are running this autumn and which are open to anyone.  (You can find more information about our virtual classrooms here.)

Hermeneutics is the technical term for the theory and methodology of correctly studying the text of Scripture. This course is designed to give you the tools to study any passage of Scripture and come to a correct understanding and application of the text.

Hermeneutics is both a science and an art.   It is a science because there are rules that must be applied, and it is an art in that the skill and gifting of the interpreter is necessary for the correct application of the rules.

This will be a very practical and interactive course with lots of exercises and opportunities to apply what you have learned.

This course runs over 18 weeks – 9 in the autumn of 2020 and 9 in the Spring of 2021. There is an optional, additional 9 week component in the summer of 20201.

Course dates:

In order to make this course as widely accessible as possible we are running it at two different times in the week

  • October 6, 13, 20, 27; November 10, 17, 24; December 1, 8
  • from 7-9pm

Thursdays

  • October 8, 15, 22, 29; November 12, 19, 26; December 3, 10
  • from 2-4pm

John has been involved in a Bible preaching and teaching ministry for more than 40 years, has pastored 3 local churches, headed up an international missions agency, led 2 Bible Colleges and trained preachers in several countries including Sudan and South Sudan.

Blended learning @ EBC

Since EBC was established in 2012 two of our key priorities have been accessibility and flexibility. We are keen to make our training available to as many people as possible and in ways that are appropriate for people’s varied circumstances and commitments. We have always made most of our teaching available to distance learning students, and some of them have combined online modules with attendance at a few classes on campus.

We now want to take this a step further with our new Blended Learning initiative. This will make our full mentored and practical training for ministry accessible to some who, for various reasons, are not in a position to physically attend College every week but who could combine learning from home through personal study and online virtual classrooms with some modules taken on campus.

We are rolling this out in the new College year, starting at the end of September 2020, and are in discussion with two or three potential students who want to take advantage of this opportunity.

If you would like to explore this possibility, either for this autumn or for some time in the future, why not get in touch – info@edinburghbiblecollege.co.uk – and we would be more than happy to chat with you.
