Can you help us?

Our website is, in many ways, the shop window for the College.   Other than through personal recommendation, it’s the way most folk find out about us when they go online to find study options.  Everyone tells us that the website is good, professional and user friendly.  We are also being told – and we are convinced it’s true – that we could significantly increase traffic to the site, and therefore potential students, if we greatly improved our SEO – Search Engine Optimization.  The problem is that we need technical advice and help to do that and it’s not cheap.  Believe us, we’ve looked!

And then we thought – surely, there is someone out there – or someone who knows someone – who could help us; someone who could teach us what to do and how to do it, or who could take this on as a labour of love for the Lord and the Kingdom.    In return, we would gladly offer some free tuition.

If you could help us, please contact our Vice Principal, Ramone McKenzie: ramone@edinburghbiblecollege.co.uk

I don’t need any help with my prayer life….

“I don’t need any help with my prayer life….”, said no one ever, at least not in my hearing or to my knowledge!

If there is one thing I find all Christians to be united about, it is the defective nature and weakness of their prayer life.   With the disciples of old, the universal Christian cry is, “Lord, teach us to pray”.

Well we can’t give you the Lord in person, but we can give you our good friend Dr Sandy Roger as a help.  Sandy has considerable experience in teaching on this subject and brings a lifetime of ministry and pastoral – as well as personal – experience to bear.

Why not invest just one hour a week over 9 weeks and, together with others, make some progress in the school of prayer?

The course will be run over 9 Wednesday mornings between 9.30 and 10.30, and will be held over zoom so that WHOEVER your are and WHEREVER you are, you can take part and benefit.

There are two ways to get involved:

  • You can audit the course – simply taking part, enjoying the teaching and online fellowship, and benefitting from notes and materials.  Cost is £70
  • You can submit assessments – completing an assignment for marking and gaining EBC study credits.  Cost is £100

Please note that fees must be paid in advance. Registration is essential and can be done here.

Take a Day Off

When I was a student at Bible College ‘back in the day’ as they say, I had the immense privilege of having a student grant and being able to give up my job and study full-time for three years.  However, that is a luxury not afforded to most people today, which is why EBC, from the start, has taken a very flexible approach to study options.  I often come across people who would dearly like to do some serious study and perhaps get equipped for some sphere of service or ministry but just can’t see how that would be possible.  We completely understand and we can help.

None of our students are, in that old fashioned sense, full-time students.  All our Diploma students take some time off work, usually one or two days a week, as well as an evening or two, and we structure our timetable accordingly.  In this coming College year which starts at the end of September, Wednesday is what we call our Day Off.   It’s the day when we provide a full programme of varied modules, especially -but not exclusively – aimed at those who are pursuing one of our Diploma or Certificate courses.   So this autumn, on Wednesdays, we will be studying Prayer, The Pastoral Letters and Bible Interpretation.

We are known for our flexible approach to study and if you would like to discuss options with us that would work best for you, please do get in touch.  And even though we are now nearing the end of August, it’s not too late to apply to start next month.  That’s how flexible we can be!

The Pastorals (1 and 2 Timothy, Titus)

Image is everything!   If that seems an inappropriate mission statement for a Christian Bible study course, it’s only because we are considering image consciousness from the wrong direction! Taking the view from heaven rather than earth, the Creator has an ancient and undistracted concern for His image – in mortals!  This is really good news. Just think: The LORD is righteous in all His ways and kind to all He has made. He is slow to anger. Abounding in steadfast love, He never lies, is utterly constant, unchanging – and never breaks a promise. His thoughts and ways are so much higher than ours that we need to see by His light – and in Him there is no darkness whatsoever. Imagine life on earth if mortals were… like Him!

Jesus prayed nothing less for His followers. Asking the Father NOT to take us out of the world, but to empower us for holiness in the teeth of evil opposition, He cried “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.” (John 17:17) Our God’s undeviating purpose then, is to make our every life experience mould us into the likeness of His Son. (Rom 8:28-29)

No wonder then that the veteran apostle Paul, elderly, anticipating his departure from this life, but still ablaze with missionary zeal, should be concerned to protect the continuity and doctrinal integrity of the young churches. Timothy and Titus he charged and instructed to deal with the ‘truth twisters’ who threatened to make the saints reflect the world rather than the Master. Join us for this module as we seek to grasp Paul’s end-of-life clarity!

The course runs over 10 Wednesday mornings, from 11.00am – 1.00pm, and is taught by Rev David Andrew.
