EBC Pastors’ Fellowship

We commend to your prayers a new venture which begins today – the EBC Pastors’ Fellowship.

Many men in pastoral ministry, have a sense of isolation and are sometimes struggling with issues in ministry for which they do not feel adequately prepared and equipped. This, of course, is in addition to the general need for fellowship and mutual burden-bearing.

With this in mind we are today holding the first online meeting of the EBC Pastors’ Fellowship, with most, but not all, of those involved having been trained at EBC over the years or currently undergoing training. Those involved at this moment in time are ministering in Scotland, England, N Ireland, Poland and the USA. We want to provide an ongoing support and fellowship resource and meet not as lecturers and students but as brothers in Christ and co-workers in the gospel. Two or three experienced Pastors will be involved so as to provide a wealth of knowledge and experience. We will discuss issues in pastoral ministry, do some guided reading together and pray for one another.

Initially we envisage these being monthly get-togethers over zoom with the possibility of one or two ‘in-person’ meetings during the year as well. If you know someone who might benefit from this ministry, please do let us know.

We Welcome a New EBC Director

We’re delighted to welcome a new member to our Board of Directors, and especially so because he is our first EBC Graduate to join the Board.

Pastor Joe Brown graduated with a Diploma in Theology in 2017, after which he served as Pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Perth before moving to N Ireland in the summer of 2022 to become Pastor of Larne Congregational Church. We are immensely grateful to him and the other members of the Board for their input, time and prayers in directing the work of the College.

Have you signed up yet for one of our new modules? Route 66 (Bible Overview) started last evening but you could still enrol in time for next week’s class and not have missed too much. We had a keen group of students online, signing in from as far apart as Aberdeen and Belfast, and that’s possible because all our courses are held over zoom. All our other courses – see below – start next week and we are still accepting registrations (here).

Details of the individual subjects can be found here.

Route 66: Bible Overview

There’s still time to join others who have already signed up for our new evening class series which starts at 7.00pm on Monday 26th September.

Over 30 Monday evenings between now and next summer we’ll work our way through the whole Bible – book by book – becoming familiar with the structure and theme of each book of the Bible, and seeing how it contributes to the storyline of the Bible as a whole. ANYONE is more than welcome to join us, and more details can be found about this course as well as our other autumn 2022 courses here.

Evening Classes on Zoom

Two weeks today our new autumn series of evening classes on zoom starts and we hope you are going to join us. Over the next nine months, week by week and book by book we will travel Route 66, working our way right through the Bible, studying each individual book as well as setting it in its wider biblical context. This would be a great way to get a good handle on your Bible in a way you may never have done before.

Held over zoom, you don’t even need to leave home to benefit from this course! And because all sessions are recorded, if the live teaching time doesn’t suit you, registered students can access and watch them at a convenient time of their own choosing.

There are two ways to get involved:

  • You can audit the course – simply taking part, enjoying the teaching and online fellowship, and benefitting from lots of notes and materials
  • you can submit assessments – completing three assignments for marking and gaining EBC study credits

The course starts on Monday 26th September 2022 and runs from 7.00 – 9.00pm each Monday evening during College term time. Specific dates will be provided.

The cost is:

  • auditing option: £150 per term (10 sessions @ £15 per night); £420 for the whole year if paid in advance
  • assessments option: £200 per term (10 sessions @ £20 per night); £570 for the whole year if paid in advance

Please note that fees must be paid at least one term in advance. Registration is essential and can be done here.

Course Tutor:

Pastor John Brand DipTH, EBC Director of Training

John was born to missionary parents in India and trusted Christ for salvation while at boarding school there at the age of 11.  He later trained at the Bible Training Institute in Glasgow, and then, for 12 years, pastored two Independent Evangelical churches, one in the inner city of London and then one in Liverpool, during some of which time he also served on the UK Council of Africa Inland Mission International (AIM). In 1993 he took on the role of AIM’s Director for Scotland, becoming Director for UK and Europe in 1999. During his 8 years in this position he exercised a Bible teaching ministry throughout UK and Europe and made regular visits to many of AIM’s fields of service in Africa where he was involved in ministering to missionaries and nationals. Married to Caroline and with two grown up sons and two grand-daughters, John is Pastor of Grace Community Church, Broxburn, contributes book reviews and articles to Christian publications, and is author of three books – A Concise Chronology of the Bible, The Bible as it Happened and Mission Matters, which has also been published in Romanian. In the little spare time he has, he enjoys reading, walking and family history research.

Could You Be A Friend Of EBC?

Edinburgh Bible College was established in 2012 to provide a grass-roots, church based training and equipping for ANY Christian and, already, in the Lord’s goodness, we have been privileged to help train students who are now serving in, among other places, Poland, USA, Canada, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Ireland, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, as well as others who have just got to know their God and their Bibles better.

Humanly speaking, none of this would have been possible without the prayerful and financial support of many people, and we are enormously grateful to each one.

In common with most non-denominational Bible Colleges in the UK, income from tuition fees only accounts for about two-thirds of our core costs and so we are dependent on the generosity of our supporters to maintain and develop the ministry.

By joining Friends of EBC you can play an important part in helping us equip the next generation of church leaders.

As a Friend of EBC, you would give a monthly contribution of £10 or more to help us cover our costs. In return, we would send you regular updates about how this support is helping us move forward in providing quality training for more and more of God’s people.

As a special ‘Thank You’ to every new Friend of EBC, we will send you a copy of The Bible As It Happened, a chronological Bible reading plan written by our Director of Training, Pastor John Brand.

For more information, please email friends@edinburghbiblecollege.co.uk and we’ll get things moving.

Thank you

Introduction to New Testament Greek

If you are serious about studying the Bible in any depth and reading commentaries, we believe you really should get at least the basics of the New Testament Greek alphabet and the way the language works.

If you are a teacher or preacher, it is essential to have at least a reading knowledge of the language, so that you can follow the text even if you need to look at a translation or dictionary from time to time. This will help you to understand both the text itself and some of the more complex areas of interpretation.
