Spring Term Schedule
Several folk have been eagerly awaiting details of the virtual classes we will be running in the New Year – well here they are. We have had a great autumn term, but are looking forward to welcoming new and continuing students to the range of subjects we will be teaching in January.

In the week of Monday 27th November we will post full details of each of these modules, but in the meantime, for those of you who are very keen, you can register NOW for the subject(s) of your choice here.
Bible in a Day
A reminder that EBC’s Principal, John Brand, will be presenting his Bible in a Day seminar at Grace Community Church in Broxburn this Saturday, 30th. We’ve got folk coming from Perthshire and elsewhere, so if you’re within striking distance of Broxburn why not come and join us for a great day of fellowship and learning. Full details here.

Graduation Message
We were richly fed at yesterday’s Graduation Celebration when Jeremy McQuoid, Senior Pastor at Deeside Christian Fellowship in Aberdeen, brought us a challenging message from Exodus 4:18-11. Enjoy it and share it.
The Pastoral Letters

This module is a study of Paul the apostle’s ‘settled canon’ as, towards the end of his life and ministry he hands on the flaming torch of the Gospel to his trusted co-workers Timothy and Titus, and through them seeks to correct the leadership in Ephesus and the believers in Crete respectively. Throughout these units we shall – primarily, though not exclusively – study The ‘Pastoral’ Letters with the help of only one commentary: The Bible.
The aim of this module is to:
- Demonstrate – on the principle that ‘the Bible is its own best commentary’ – the possibility and the absolute necessity of illuminating part of Scripture – in this case the Pastoral Letters – by means of “all Scripture” (Luke 24:27; 2 Timothy 3:16)
- Discover why Paul’s “dungeon flamed with light” – even on death row!
The course is held over 10 Tuesday mornings, from 11.00 – 1.00, starting on 26th September.
There are two ways to get involved:
- You can audit the course – simply taking part, enjoying the teaching and online fellowship, and benefitting from lots of notes and materials
- you can submit assessments – completing an assignment for marking and gaining EBC study credits

Rev David Andrew is the Editor of Sword, an evangelical magazine which seeks to ‘restore the confidence of God’s people in the Word of God and the God of the Word’. He maintains that “…if God has put it on His page, we need to do something with it. There is no redundant Scripture. Only a whole Bible provides the whole truth.” A decade in editorial journalism with multinational engineering companies gradually fused with Christian ministry as David’s two pastoral charges, one Congregational, one independent, led him to accept the invitation to join Dr Clifford Hill in Bedford as Managing Editor of what was then Prophecy Today magazine. In 2003, David followed Cliff as Editor and, upon moving back to Scotland in 2004 to support an elderly mother, subsequently re-branded the magazine as Sword to reflect a perceived need to combat growing apostasy and encourage in the church a high view of God’s Word – a significant direction change from the previous focus on the ‘state of the nation’. David and his wife Agnes are members of Bellshill Baptist Church and live in Lanarkshire. Frequent preaching and conference speaking enable him to keep the magazine ‘earthed’ in the wider Christian community. They have two daughters, one married and three grandchildren. He holds an honours degree in theology from Edinburgh and a distinction level qualification in English Language teaching from St Andrews. Family life and music easily account for any leisure time.
The Most Important Subject We Teach At EBC
Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones once wrote:
There is no doubt but that 99% of our troubles as Christians is that we are ignorant of God. We spend so much time feeling our own pulse, taking our own spiritual temperature, considering our moods, our states, and fears. Oh, if we had but had some conception of Him, the inconceivable glory of God.
We couldn’t agree more and so our study in ‘Theology Proper’ – The Doctrine of God – is one of the keystones of our curriculum.

Join us on 10 Tuesday afternoons, from 2–4, through the autumn for a mind-stirring, heart-warming, soul-nourishing study of the biblical teaching on the doctrine of God, focussing on his being, attributes and the Trinity. We’ll seek to answer the question posed by another great preacher and Bible teacher:
Who is God? Who is this One who reveals himself in Scripture, in the person of Jesus Christ and through the Holy Spirit?
James Montgomery Boice

John Brand was born to missionary parents in India and trusted Christ for salvation while at boarding school there at the age of 11. He later trained at the Bible Training Institute in Glasgow, and then, for 12 years, pastored two independent evangelical churches, one in the inner city of London and then one in Liverpool, during some of which time he also served on the UK Council of Africa Inland Mission International (AIM). In 1993 he took on the role of AIM’s Director for Scotland, becoming Director for UK and Europe in 1999. During his 8 years in this position he exercised a Bible teaching ministry throughout UK and Europe and made regular visits to many of AIM’s fields of service in Africa where he was involved in ministering to missionaries and nationals. After some years on the staff of The Faith Mission Bible College in Edinburgh, John, in partnership with several church leaders, established Edinburgh Bible College. Married to Caroline and with two grown up sons and two grand-daughters, John contributes book reviews and articles to Christian publications, and is author of three books – A Concise Chronology of the Bible, The Bible as it Happened and Mission Matters, which has also been published in Romanian. John recently stood down as Pastor of Grace Community Church in Broxburn and in the little spare time he has he enjoys reading, walking and family history research.
