Expository Preaching

The faithful and passionate preaching and teaching of Scripture is at the heart of everything the EBC student is trained for.

In this 18 week course, two hours per week, EBC’s Principal, Pastor John Brand, will guide you through the process of preparing and preaching or teaching a message based on a passage of Scripture. Even with more than 40 years’ experience of preaching and many years of training preachers, he can’t make anyone a preacher, but we can help you develop a gift that God has given you.

The Bible As It Happened

If you are looking for a Bible Reading plan for 2022 – or perhaps a gift for a friend – our Principal, Pastor John Brand, has compiled a chronological reading plan that will take you through the whole Bible ‘as it happens’ in a year, with some helpful comments along the way.

The cost is just £6 (plus postage), and if you email us we’ll get a copy in the post to you.

New Testament Overview

Becoming familiar with the whole Bible appears a rather daunting task, but this course is designed to help you make all the relevant connections and discover the big, redemptive, storyline.   In this part of the course we work our way, book-by-book, through the New Testament identifying the key verse, structure and theme of each book and identifying its place in the big story-line of the Bible.

A great way to really get to know your Bible – all of it!

Church History

The purpose of church history was expressed like this by a master in the field, Johann August Wilhelm Neander (1789-1850):

“To exhibit the history of the church of Christ as a living witness to the divine power of Christianity; as a school of Christian experience; a voice sounding through the ages, of instruction, of doctrine, and of rebuke, for all who are disposed to listen.”

It is, surely, one of the most important and interesting subjects that we study.

Led by our expert guide, Rev Dr Sandy Roger, this 18 week module will

  • trace the history of the Church from Pentecost to the present
  • assess our evangelical heritage throughout the history of the Church
  • explain the emergence of theological positions throughout Church history
  • describe the emergence of the major branches of Christianity today
