EBC is governed by and accountable to local churches through our Board of Directors which is made up of leaders of evangelical churches and we’re delighted to welcome Pastor David Childs as a new member of the Board.

David grew up in the South East of England in a Christian home. In his early twenties God led him to Africa with African Inland Mission as a Mechanical Engineer to help with the maintenance on a mission station in Central African Republic.
This marked a turning point in the direction his life would now take.
On his return he headed to Bible College followed by 10 years pastoral ministry in Southampton. After a short spell pastoring in the North East of England David arrived in Scotland in 2011 to pastor Strathaven Evangelical Church.
Throughout David’s ministry he has maintained his heart for mission. Never one to be content with theory, he has been working with some church leaders in Angola to establish a leadership training program.
David met Diane, from Northern Ireland, at Bible College and they have two sons, Joel and Matthew, and more recently two daughters in law, and 3 grandchildren.
David has a passion for, and a track record in, discipling, mentoring and training and we are sure he will prove a great asset to the College.
Do you ever buy anything from Amazon? For many of us, love them or loathe them, we often turn to Amazon to buy things online. Well now, you can buy from Amazon in the usual way and at the same time support the ministry of EBC financially.
Here’s how it works:
It couldn’t be simpler and won’t cost you anything other than what you were going to spend anyway.

These six hours will give you a bigger Bible…
(Rev Dr Sandy Roger)
For many – perhaps most – Christians, vast sections of the Bible are either ‘no go’ or at least ‘not gone’ areas. They are strangers to much of God’s exciting and important revelation to us.
The Bible in a Day is designed to change all that.
EBC Principal John Brand has presented this material in many local churches around the UK and is now presenting it online in a special one day seminar.
Presented over four 1.5 hour sessions on Saturday 3rd October, with opportunities for questions and interaction, this is a great way to really get to know your Bible – your whole Bible.
Pre-registration is essential and can be done here.
We all felt that John was extremely well at explaining the Bible and came across in an enthralling manner, keeping our interest at all times.

Becoming familiar with the whole Bible appears a rather daunting task, but this course is designed to help you make all the relevant connections and discover the big, redemptive, storyline. It provides an overview of the whole Bible, looking at the dominant motif, the setting and environment out of which it came, and the contribution each book of the Bible makes to the whole.
Over two College years, starting this autumn with Genesis through to 2 Samuel, we’ll guide you through each of the Bible’s 66 books giving you it’s outline, key verse and timeline among other things.

Jesus gave his followers one task. The most rewarding, challenging, and strategic work. A creative, personal, and flexible investment in the future. This one activity has propelled the church though history and placed it in our hands. And now His commission comes to us, “Go, and make disciples.”
This module approaches the task with confident hope in the teaching of Jesus Christ and the example of the early church. It explores the marks of a disciple and unpacks the everyday elements of making disciples, so that you can continue to grow as a life-giving, good-news Christian and bring others along with you.

Hermeneutics is the technical term for the theory and methodology of correctly studying the text of Scripture. This course is designed to give you the tools to study any passage of Scripture and come to a correct understanding and application of the text.
Hermeneutics is both a science and an art. It is a science because there are rules that must be applied, and it is an art in that the skill and gifting of the interpreter is necessary for the correct application of the rules.
This will be a very practical and interactive course with lots of exercises and opportunities to apply what you have learned.
This course runs over 18 weeks – 9 in the autumn of 2020 and 9 in the Spring of 2021. There is an optional, additional 9 week component in the summer of 20201.

We live in a world where doubt is heroic and faith is moronic. That’s why we need apologetics, which helps us in two ways: (1) personal edification and (2) persuasive evangelism.
It is common for Christians to be disturbed by things they find in the Bible and doubts that they have encountered out in the world. Apologetics helps us tackle and understand these issues that otherwise can undermine our confidence in the person and promises of the Lord Jesus.
Also in our increasingly post-Christian society there are many objections to taking the Bible seriously and many difficulties in communicating the gospel with secular people. Apologetics helps us to think through the hardest questions in the classroom, and equips us with strategies for sharing the good news of Jesus out in the field.
The course will be taught by Rev David Nixon and Dr Andy Bannister, drawing on materials and experiences developed while doing apologetics ministry in 21st century Scotland.
Course dates:

What you think about when you think about God is the most important thing you’ll ever think.
A W Tozer
n this 9 week course we will study ‘true theology’ – what the Bible teaches about God – focussing on his being, his names and his attributes. With God’s help we will study in such a way that as well as our heads being biblically informed our hearts will be deeply warmed and our lives profoundly transformed.
There is no doubt but that 99% of our troubles as Christians is that we are ignorant of God. We spend so much time feeling our own pulse, taking our own spiritual temperature, considering our moods, our states, and fears. Oh, if we had but had some conception of Him, the inconceivable glory of God.
